SCJN Recess: Implications for Procedural Deadlines
August 8, 2026

According to Press Release No. 107/2026 from the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), issued on July 15, 2026, the Highest Court concluded its First Ordinary Period of Sessions for the current year.
Suspension of Key Procedural Deadlines
This recess, which will run from July 16 to August 2, 2026, carries important implications for ongoing litigation. During this period, procedural deadlines related to the processing of constitutional controversies, "juicios de amparo" (amparo lawsuits), and other matters within the SCJN's jurisdiction will not run, as stipulated by applicable legislation.
It is crucial for our clients with open cases before the SCJN to understand that this suspension directly impacts the timing of their legal defenses and strategies. The interruption of deadlines provides a period of pause, which must be considered when planning any legal or tax action dependent on judicial timelines.
Exceptions and Operations During the Recess
It is important to note that the deadline for filing "acciones de inconstitucionalidad" (unconstitutionality actions) will continue to run. Additionally, the Recess Commission will operate to exclusively handle urgent administrative and jurisdictional matters. The Judicial Certification and Correspondence Office (OCJC) will also maintain operations during specific hours and will address inquiries regarding the input and operation of institutional technological systems; however, it will not receive jurisdictional demands, resources, or promotions via its email, as these are regulated by General Agreement 1/2025 (12a).
The SCJN will resume its jurisdictional activities on Monday, August 3, with the start of the Second Ordinary Period of Sessions.
